Hello folks,
I am in the midst of updating and revamping my website…I know it is about time.
Unfortunately while working on it tonight I lost some valuable info. Many of you had websites and/or businesses that I listed on my “Related Links” page. Well, they are now gone!
If you have a business or even a site you think I may be interested in, please let me know.
I have also added a “Products”  page and if you have a product or know of one that fits ECHO’s views and philosophies, please tell me and I will review it.
Also, PLEASE, tell me HOW you want it posted..any particular phrases or wording. It will save me the job and it will be posted in a manner that you are comfortable with.
Remember this is a site about HEALTH. I am not interested in your pet grooming business. XXOO
Thank you,
Dotty Scalco
PS. I will let you know when it is done. I hope to be adding some cool, informative videos.
Also please note my ECHO phone number has changed.
It is listed on the site and is  now 772 529-1023

Enzymes and more April 29, 2009

Good day listmates,
One of my favorite websites is http://enzymestuff.com/. There is a wealth of knowledge on this site and it is all easy to understand.
I use enzymes everyday. In fact our whole family does. I believe everyone needs them. Our bodies are equipped with enzymes, each serving a specific protein. I won’t get into them all but there are enzymes for meat digestion, fruit digestion, dairy etc. What happens is our body uses up many of our enzymes at an early age due to the fact that our foods today are processed and we our enzyme supply needs to work extra hard. We rarely eat whole, raw foods. Toxicities in our environment and in our foods also destroy enzymes.
Nature knows what it is doing because many foods contain enzymes but we destroy them through high heat like pasteurization, and cooking Once again we need to implement more RAW, WHOLE foods. Foods the way nature intended them to be!
Enzymes come in all different shapes and sizes and sorting out the mess can be confusing. So please look at Enzyme Stuff and learn a bit more.
Also another company, Enzymedica is sending out free samples of their new product, Digest Basic.
The number is 1-888-918-1118.
The promo code is DP0409. I just called and it was no problem. They took my address and will send them out next week.
As always I ask that we educate ourselves. Reading and attending lectures is the best way.
The Autism Treatment of America is currently doing a free Autism Grass Roots Tour throughout the country.
Go to www.AGRT.org for details and locations.
Once again, don’t forget if you are not getting enough raw, whole  foods into your diet, Juice Plus is the only product I have found that has proved to be effective. 17 raw fruits, vegetables and grains, juiced and compressed into a powder form. I recently tried the gummies…OH MY. They are so good. They do however contain a small amount of corn syrup ( not high fructose ) so for those that may have an issue with corn syrup, the capsules are your best bet.

“In 1976 Gerald Ford, trying for election, ordered 40 million
vaccinations over a three to four month period of time, probably
leading to almost 1,000 cases of ascending paralysis from the hastily
made vaccine (Guillain Barre Syndrome) and driving most of the
vaccine makers out of business. We certainly don’t need a repeat of
this performance, in advance of any real worldwide threat.”

DR. MARC SIEGEL: The Most Powerful Virus Is Fear Not Flu
http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/04/25/dr-marc-siegel-the-most-powerful-virus-is-fear-not-flu/

With a new swine flu strain spreading among close to 1,000 people in
Mexico and at least eight in the U.S., and with 61 reported deaths in
Mexico, the most powerful virus pushing out its tentacles is not flu
but fear. We are afraid of what we don’t know and what we don’t understand.

We hear about an unseen killer and we worry that we will be next. The
best antidote for this kind of fear is the facts.

So let me take on the fear-laden terms. The first is pandemic. A
pandemic means a new flu virus infecting people in several areas of
the world at the same time. It can be mild, moderate, or severe.
Everyone knows about the 1918 Blue Death that killed over 50 million
people worldwide, but how many people realize that the last pandemic,
in 1968, ameliorated by vaccines, antibiotics, and public health
measures, killed only 32,000 in the U.S. and 700,000 worldwide, less
than many yearly outbreaks.

The current swine flu outbreak is not a pandemic, as the outbreak is
confined mainly to Mexico, but if it does become one, it is far more
likely to be the 1968 variety because of modern public health
measures and because we have been exposed to several parts of this
virus before and have an immune memory to it.

Precautions like isolating sick people and use of the anti-virals
Tamiflu and Relenza in order to decrease severity are wise precautions.

Wise too is closing schools in Mexico to prevent spread
(schoolchildren are notorious flu spreaders), provided that this
measure doesn’t send the world the wrong message that a massive
pandemic is in the offing.

The second scare term is the pig itself. Pigs scare us. They are
filthy noisy creatures. They are also loaded with flu viruses. This
strain occurred because a bird virus mixed with at least one human
virus and two pig viruses. Flus are changing all the time so a new strain
isn’t really a surprise.

We also need to be cautioned by the lessons of history. Back in 1976
an emerging swine flu virus appeared to be responsible for the death
of a military recruit at Fort Dix (this later turned out to be
erroneous), sparking a massive public hysteria fueled by Center for
Disease Control press conferences.

I was reminded of this Friday when the CDC again spread fear about an
emerging swine flu. We need to remember that fear causes people to
take less precautions, but fighting contagions requires more precautions.

In 1976 Gerald Ford, trying for election, ordered 40 million
vaccinations over a three to four month period of time, probably
leading to almost 1,000 cases of ascending paralysis from the hastily
made vaccine (Guillain Barre Syndrome) and driving most of the
vaccine makers out of business. We certainly don’t need a repeat of
this performance, in advance of any real worldwide threat.

Thirdly, we are also afraid because this disease is emerging in
Mexico, a foreign land to the south over which we have no control.
But fear of an unknown land doesn’t automatically translate to an
American health risk. We are wise to have our scientists and public
health officials tracking the outbreak, but we are not wise to
anticipate the worst.

Like all flus, this one causes great fatigue, muscle aches, fevers,
sore throat, nasal congestion, stomach upset, but is generally
curable. The greatest risk is from secondary infections like
pneumonia or ear infections, especially in the chronically ill. But
in the U.S., if it spreads here, these problems are much more easily
treated than in rural
Mexico.

We should be comforted by the time of the year. This is the end of
the flu season, not the beginning. Flu viruses thrive in the low
humidity of winter, not summer. It is very likely that this outbreak
will die out automatically as the summer comes. It will remain
necessary to track it because it could reappear in the fall, but it
is very unlikely that it will erupt into a pandemic this summer.

I am glad that this outbreak is a swine rather than a bird flu, not
because pig viruses are intrinsically safer than bird viruses, but
because the greater lesson to guide us here comes from the 1976 pig
hysteria, rather than from the 1918 bird flu plague.

Bird flu to swine flu

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 – For Immediate Release:

Listen to the warnings

Just 6 weeks ago (March 16th, 2009), the Australian Vaccination
Network (AVN), Australia’s national health and vaccination information
lobby group, warned that contamination of the Baxter International flu
vaccine with live Avian Influenza virus (H5N1 – the bird flu) could
lead to the pandemic we have been warned about over the last few
years. This vaccine was sent to 8 European nations and the
contamination was only discovered when scientists in the Czech
Republic found that all ferrets who were given this vaccine died – an
event which does not occur with normal flu vaccine.

Influenza viruses – both swine flu and avian influenza – are host
specific meaning that though pigs and birds are susceptible to their
own strains respectively, they will not generally cross into other
species. Not without a bit of help, that is.

Labs around the world however, are currently experimenting with ways
to ‘help’ these viruses cross the species barrier – to try and create
vaccines in advance of the predicted pandemic.

As we saw with Baxter’s inclusion of live avian influenza virus in
their flu vaccine, accidents can and do happen and when they do, the
results can be deadly.

The strains of influenza being diagnosed in Mexico and the US are
brand new. They have never been identified before. Not necessarily
unusual or cause for concern. What is concerning however is the fact
that in this outbreak, the flu strain we are seeing is a combination
of human, avian and swine influenza – and the genetic codes for these
viruses match those that normally circulate in Europe and Asia.

Not only are we seeing these viruses jump the species barrier – they
are jumping the intercontinental barriers as well.

The question then becomes – did they jump or were they pushed?

Are we seeing yet another pharmaceutical company mistake – one now
with deadly results?

The only way to answer this question is to immediately test all
currently licensed influenza vaccines for contamination with foreirn
flu viruses. The Australian Vaccination Network feels that this would
be not only a prudent move on the part of the government, but one
which could stop a potential outbreak of this deadly disease from
reaching our shores via a pathway that is currently not being
investigated.

E-news April 17, 2009

Hello listmates,
I hate to send out yucky news but I also believe we need to be informed to make powerful, healthful decisions for our families.
On my website I mention many things we need to change.
Below are three suggestions and articles supporting them.

ONE: BREASTFEED

Perchlorate chemicals found in baby formula.

TWO: GET SOME SUN

Link between autism and Vitamin D deficiency.

THREE: AVOID FLUORIDE

Cancer causing toxins in fluoride

On a good note the London Autism Rally was a huge success. See the video here.

Thank you Joan Campbell for your hard work.

Hope you are all enjoying the fantastic weather. We are in S. Florida and it has been unusually cool for this time of year and I love it.

For local folk, I will be at St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Jensen Beach on the 25th of April. They are having their first Earth Day celebration. I will be there along with many other great folks vending. Come on by.

I will also be at Nutrition S’mart on the 23rd of May doing a lecture on the benefits of eating gluten free.

Stop by and say “hi”

Blessings and Happy Spring

I found this article the other day and think that though its brief, its very
eye-opening…..

I think it’ll help people understand a little more of why we have changed our
eating habits and why I’ve created my organic cosmetic care line…..

All of us have cancer cells in our bodies. But not all of us will develop
cancer.” So says Dr David Servan-Schreiber, author of Anti Cancer: A New Way
of Life. This fascinating book explains the scientific facts behind cancer
in clear and convincing tones.

Is there a cancer epidemic?

Servan-Schreiber describes a cancer epidemic affecting the wealthiest
countries in the world. Since 1940 the number of cancers has increased in
all industrialised countries. This trend has picked up since 1975 and is
particularly striking in the young. In some European countries, such as
France, the cancer rate has increased by 60 per cent in the last twenty
years. The incidence of prostate cancer has risen by 200 per cent in some
European countries between 1978 and 2000, by 258 per cent in the USA over
the same period. The argument that the increase is due to early screening
leading to more diagnoses does not hold water. The increase in cancers that
are not routinely screened for is equally striking if not more so, than
those that are.

What’s behind the increase in cancer?

According to the general director of the World Health Organisation (WHO),
“Up to 80 per cent of cancers may be influenced by external factors, such as
lifestyle and the environment.” In particular, three major factors have
changed in our environment since World War Two:

  1. The addition of large quantities of highly refined sugar to our diet
  2. Changes in methods of farming and raising animals, and as a result, in our food
  3. Exposure to a large number of chemical products that didn’t exist before 1940

The anti-cancer diet

Dr Servan-Schreiber recommends a diet balanced in Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils,
low in animal protein and dairy, and high in fresh (preferably organic)
fruits and vegetables. The book comes with a handy shopping guide which
recommends a range of foods which fight the growth of cancer in the body.

Chemicals and cancer

Of course, what interests me most is the influence of the chemicals in our
environment on the increase in cancer. Here’s an excerpt from the book:
“WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer keeps a list of
carcinogenic (cancer-causing) substances in the environment. In the past
thirty years, it has tested 900 potential culprits (a tiny proportion of
over 100,000 molecules released by industry since 1940, at a rate of several
million tonnes a year). “Among these 900 products submitted to the
International Agency for Research on Cancer… only one has been recognised
as non-carcinogenic.

Ninety-five have been identified as a ‘known carcinogen’ (i.e. there have
been enough epidemiological studies and animal research to establish cause
and effect). “Three hundred and seven are ‘probable’ or ‘possible’
carcinogens. Four hundred and ninety-seven remain ‘unclassified’, which
means they have not been sufficiently studied.” In many cases, these
substances continue to be widely used. Of course, industrialists argue that
consumers are exposed to very low levels of such chemicals. However a trial
of 400 chemicals (a representative sample of 75,000 on the market at the
time) found that 5-10 per cent of these chemicals were carcinogenic for
humans. Five to ten per cent of 75,000 means we are regularly exposed to
3,750 – 7,500 carcinogens, which makes it less reassuring that each one may
be less than a toxic dose, given that the total toxicity then comes to 37 to
to 75 times the toxic dose in animals!

So what can we do to protect ourselves?

Rethink dry cleaning – Servan-Schreiber recommends avoiding
perchloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene in dry cleaning by airing out your
dry cleaned garments in fresh air for several hours before wearing, or going
for wet cleaning, liquid CO2 or silicon.

Avoid aluminium – He tells us to avoid deodorants and antiperspirants
containing aluminium, especially for women who shave their armpits as this
facilitates the penetration of aluminium.

Avoid Phthalates by using natural cosmetics According to Servan-Schreiber,
we should avoid cosmetics, shampoo, lotions, gels, hair dye, nail polish and
sunscreen containing oestrogens, parabens or phthalates, and perfumes
containing phthalates (nearly all of them do).

Use green household cleaners – He further warns against chemical household
pesticides and insecticides, heating plastic containers made with PVCs,
preparing food in scratched Teflon pans and common cleaning products such as
liquid detergents, disinfectants and toilet-bowl sanitisers.

Beat the chemical overload

To me, it is blindingly obvious that the wide range of chemicals we plaster
on ourselves and liberally use around our homes, together with the countless
pesticides we are ingesting, contribute to the epidemic of cancer. It makes
sense to make different choices. Green, natural and organic skin care and
beauty products and household products are effective and benefit our health
and that of the world around us. Servan-Schreiber himself suffered from
cancer which disappeared after surgery and then reappeared. By changing his
lifestyle dramatically, he managed to beat it. This book is fascinating
reading not only because of the clear, balanced and well-argued way the
evidence is presented (as you would expect from an eminent scientist and
doctor). It is also riveting because of the personal experience the author
refers to throughout. I highly recommend it. You can pick up a copy at all
major book stores in Australia.
